December 30-January 2, San Diego International Auto Show
Car Buffs’ Heaven.  Big cars, little cars, old cars, new cars, special cars and more cars.  Oh, and trucks and vans too!  All children ages 6 & under admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.  On Sunday, family day, children under 12 are free with a paying adult.

January 1, Annual Polar Bear Plunge
As an annual tradition to ring in the New Year, a bunch of absolutely nuts swimmers will congregate on the beach at La Jolla Shores and plunge into the icy cold ocean.  Lifeguards and support crew will be there on hand in kayaks and jet skis.  Free event.

January 9, Annual San Diego Resolution 5k & 15K
This event takes runners on a loop around Fiesta Island in scenic Mission Bay Park’s De Anza Cove while raising funds for charities that seek to keep the environment healthy.

January 15, Annual Downtown Multicultural Festival

This is an all-day community celebration in remembrance of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. featuring two stages of fine entertainment, a car & motorcycle showcase, Kids Zone, merchandise booths, and a BBQ cook-off contest.  Includes Sports Fest segment which has a basketball camp, football camp, and tennis camp.  Free event.

January 16-21, San Diego Restaurant Week
Twice a year San Diego restaurants throw a culinary celebration featuring three fabulous courses for a fixed price.  There are no tickets or passes required.  Food lovers may simply dine out at as many participating restaurants as they like.  Guests can enjoy a 3 course meal for $20, $30 or $40 per person, depending on the restaurant.

January 22, Auto Products Recyling Event – Kearny Mesa
This event is geared for City of San Diego residents only.  At-home mechanics can take advantage of this offer.  Items such as used oil, antifreeze, oil filters, and auto batteries will be collected for recycling.  There’s no charge to do it, but there is a 10-gallon limit per person.

January 28-30, San Diego Lunar New Year Tet Festival
The Vietnamese community, in celebration of the Lunar New Year, is presenting a festival to promote homeland traditions.  There will be a mock structure of a Vietnam village where you’ll experience ancestral rituals and entertaining performances; plus contests, rides, food, and merchandise.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and $4.00 for kids.

January 29, Lake Hodges Trail Run 5K
Another Tanzania benefit at Lake Hodges.  This event is a 5K run along the North Shore Trail.  Proceeds from this event will help build a biogas conversion tank for cooking at the Tumaini Childrens Village in Arusha, Tanzania (East Africa).
