Mission Beach- “The Strand”
Mission Beach is one of the most energetic beaches in San Diego. If you want to live or visit a place that will invigorate and energize you, this is it. You will find that you can have the beach life while at the same time enjoy all the robust people and attractions that come in this little package. Having your days filled with excitement and anticipation as you try to decide on the many activities that are offered here, you will find that you often run out of time taking it all in. Being on “The Strand”, you can enjoy an open beach that spans for almost two miles with a boardwalk that runs the entire length of the beach. This oceanfront has more beach space than most of the other beaches in San Diego, making it roomier for building sandcastles and playing in the sun. Watch out, this little sandbar is addictive. Once you visit, you might just make it your home.
The Start Of Mission Beach
In 1914, John D. Spreckles started selling small parcels of land after he noticed that the beaches around Mission Beach were booming. Mission Beach developed at a much slower pace than the other beaches due to problems with building on sand. After resolving those issues and the addition of a new wooden bridge between Mission Beach and Ocean Beach, Mission Beach started thriving and developing at a record pace. Spreckels soon came up with a plan to promote real estate and his new electric railway by building the Mission Beach Amusement Center in 1925. Later on, it was renamed Belmont Park. It was nicknamed “The Strand” due to the fact that it is a sand bar nestled between Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
Where To Find Mission Beach
Mission Beach can be found east of the Pacific Ocean and west of Mission Bay and Mission Bay Park. It lies south of Pacific Beach and north of the San Diego River estuary. Mission Beach is separated into two sections, North Mission Beach and South Mission Beach. Mission Boulevard is the main road on Mission Beach and is easily accessible from Garnet Avenue.
Mission Beach Real Estate
The diverse culture on Mission Beach has led to the popularity of finding real estate that holds unique attributes. You may find glamorous and upscale homes on the bay side of Mission Beach and take a twist to more beachy and colorful apartments and cottages on the ocean side. While the oceanfront holds more entertainment from the boardwalk, being close to the bay has a more laid back appeal. When choosing real estate on Mission Beach, it really depends on your personality. There are so many styles and choices, that we know that there’s someplace waiting just for you.
Entertaining Ideas
It is never a struggle to find something to do or somewhere to go on Mission Beach. The only struggle that you will have is deciding on what to do first. The boardwalk alone can give you hours of entertainment. You can visit the many shops and bars that line it or use it to stay fit by skating, cycling or jogging. By visiting the Wave House at Belmont Park, you can show off your surfing moves on a simulated wave producer. It let’s you enjoy the waves while staying in a safer environment. You can also find the Wave House Athletic Club where you can find fitness trainers and guides that will help you to reach your ultimate fitness level. Mission Beach’s Belmont Park is an amusement park that offers traditional rides as well as new attractions that will be sure to entertain the whole family. At Belmont Park, you will find the famous original wooden Giant Dipper Roller Coaster. Sea World is only a mile away from the beach and will give you hours of fun. If you love to scuba dive, you can enjoy the artificial reef that was made with several shipwrecks about a half-mile off the coast. Even though the bay side is more relaxed and laid back, you can still fill your days with all the water sports that you can handle. From sailing to jet skiing, you will never find yourself at a loss for adventure. All this activity is bound to make you hungry. So let’s grab a bite from a few of the local restaurants. The Sandbar Sports Grill can offer you a Mahi Mahi and The Sandbar House Salad. Make Me Something Good is a great drink to try there. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, try Saska’s Sushi or Saska’s Steak & Seafood. The same person owns both while delivering an ambience that is totally different and unique in each one.
